My Epic Battle - from Ken to BK's Gold Coast Fishing Charters - At daybreak on the 4th of October while most of my work colleagues were in slumber land, an epic battle between man and beast was underway in the Pacific Ocean. I was on BK’s Gold Coast Fishing Charters boat approximately 9 kilometers out to sea opposite Surfers Paradise, when I hooked this monster of the deep. The skills I had learnt in the waters of the Goulburn River were of little use. This, "whatever it was" took the live baitfish with such force that I thought I had hooked Jaws III. An intense struggle then took place between fish and man, the fish desperately trying to throw the hook, tow us to the south pole or pull me out of the boat, me wondering - "What the hell is going on here." I attempted to reel it in, centimeter by centimeter, meter by meter, painstakingly, frustratingly but with amazing anticipation of success mixed with pangs of anxiety and fear of failure it inched closer and slowly closer to the boat, (the coaching of technique from the crew was incredible) finally a flash of colour - brown and white, a silhouette - huge, a fin broke the surface, someone called "shark", Capt'n Bob grinned - "nah - better - Cobia - Black kingfish - fantastic eating", I was elated, thinking victory was close, the gaff was within one meter - to my astonishment it "ran" taking out what seemed to be more line that it previously had - 4 Bloody times, 4 different Bloody directions, then it just sulked on the bottom. All along Captain Bob, shouted instructions in colorful dialect, "If you let it rest, we'll be here all day - but when it runs let him run, when it stops, turn him - he's buggered - work him back - pump and wind - smooth - "Rex would be proud of you". 33 minutes passed, (by the stop watch) it seemed like 3 hours, the gaff struck, slam - it hit the deck to the thunderous cheers of all on board - I stared in shock - did I really catch that? Someone said, pick it up - it's Kodak time, where did the strength come from? How do you feel asked Bob - What a rush, they won't believe this back home. It weighed 39kg, made the Channel 9 news (fish of the week) and all my mates back at the Gold Coast resort we stayed at were eating juicy fresh fish for the remainder of the week. Thanks to BK’s Gold Coast Fishing Charters - for the unforgettable experience. |

Thanks for a great day - - from Jeff Conly to BK's Gold Coast Fishing Charters - G'Day Bob, Just a short email note to thank you for a fantastic days fishing last week. You made my fishing mad boy's holiday. At 7 yrs old, Shane spends his every spare moment estuary fishing near our Sydney northern beaches home. He had never even seen a fish as big as the tuna that he caught on the day and I appreciate your instruction, skill and considerable local knowledge that allowed it to happen. Without doubt, these were some of the most enjoyable tourist dollars I have ever spent. Your boat and gear were in first class condition with plenty of room even with a full charter. The whole experience has inspired me and I will strongly recommend your services to any friends heading to the Gold Coast. Thank you again and looking forward to our next visit. Regards Jeff Conly. |

What a great Day - from Jonathan Davies to BK's Gold Coast Fishing Charters - Bob, Maryanne and Rebecca, Thank you very much for a fantastic day last Saturday. We ended up heading home and meeting up with the girls (who had just had their 'Hens' day) at my place. We had nineteen people that evening and they all stayed for Barbequed fish!!!.........and the fish was sensational. After copious amounts of fish, beer and wine, everyone picked up their "take home" fish parcel and headed off! What a great day! I have included some photo's of the "BIG BOY" in case you need them for your website! People are already prompting me to organise another fishing day with you.......so, I'm sure I'll be in touch soon! Thanks again. Jonathan Davies Golden Circle Ltd. I.T. Manager. |

???ANSWERS TO OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOLLOW??? DO WE CHECK ON THE WEATHER CLOSER TO THE TRIP? - Yes, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! it is a must to contact us THE DAY BEFORE YOUR TRIP to check that the weather is suitable and you know where, and what time to be at the boat. ARE THE COSTS AND INCLUSIONS IN BK' S GOLD COAST FISHING CHARTERS WEBSITE CORRECT? - Yes this web site is our most up to date form of advertising, often updated daily. I HAVE NEVER BEEN FISHING BEFORE, IS THAT A PROBLEM? - Not at all, we assist until all anglers attain a good fishing technique in a friendly team atmosphere. First time and experienced anglers, sightseers, mom, dad, kids, grandparents or the girls' day out, all are extremely welcome. WHAT IS THE COST? - The 5 hour ocean reef and game trip is $90 per person, ie for fishing, sightseeing and children. WHAT IS THE COST TO HIRE THE WHOLE BOAT AND CREW? - $1020.00au for the ocean reef and game trip of 5 hours, 12 guests is the maximum. SPECIAL - Non weekend & non public holidays whole boat fee is $960 for a max of 12 guests, ie $80ea. NB, non weekend and non holidays are usually the best days to fish due to less boating activity. DO WE DO LONGER TRIPS? - No, our first ocean rocky reef is only 10 minutes from departure, a proven hot spot only one kilometer from shore, for spanish and spotted mackerel, cobia, tuna, shark and marlin, therefore 5 hours is sufficient time. HOW FAR DO YOU GO OUT TO SEA? - Up to 30 kilometers but rarely more than 10 klms from shore, mostly 1 to 5 kilometers, it depends on the weather, target species and what's on the bite. HOW LONG IS THE BOAT DRIVING TIME? - Approximately 10 minutes to the first Pacific Ocean rocky reef, a proven hot spot only one kilometer from shore, for spanish and spotted mackerel, cobia, tuna, shark and marlin. WHAT IS INCLUDED? - Inclusions are, left or right handed Penn spinning rods and reels for float baiting with 12 lb test monofilament line, 100lb Super Braid (no stretch line, so you can feel every bite) on Penn 4/0 Senator overhead rods and reels for bottom fishing, bait, tackle, lures, sunscreen, soft drinks, iced water, tea, coffee, biscuits, a print out of the 16 fish recipes from our website and transits from and back to your coastal strip holiday accommodation (6am trip only) from Biggera Waters to Broadbeach, Mon to Fri, excluding public holidays. Just bring your camera. WHAT DO WE CATCH, WHERE DO WE FISH AND WHAT WEATHER CAN WE EXPECT? We do fish all year round, on rocky reefs and surface working fish, starting from the entrance of the seaway to 30 kilometers from shore/10 to 60 meters in depth for Mackerel, Cobia, Tuna, Snapper, Sharks, Wahoo, MahiMahi, Sailfish, Marlin and many other rocky reef fish. Our fishing techniques include simultaneous, bottom fishing, multi level bait, float bait, live bait, strip bait, lure spinning/retrieving and usually under 30 minutes of trolling - whichever is the most productive on the day. If unfamiliar, with those terms, don't let that "fish speak" worry you, we gladly assist/coach as required. Autumn, winter and spring has comfortable mild weather, approximately 20 degrees centigrade, day temperature. Summer, has typical tropical weather, often with cooling afternoon sea breezes giving approximately 30 degrees centigrade day temp. Summer has the advantage of more surface fish such as Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, MahiMahi, Spanish, School and Spotted Mackerel. Winter and Spring are our best times for Snapper, monster Cobia and Sharks. Whalers at around 3 meters in length are common, our biggest Whaler Shark bought to the boat and released was 5.1 meters long. Our largest fish ever caught by a charter guest was a Great White Pointer, guesstimated by all onboard at over 6 meters, it was freed in excellent condition as soon as it was identified as they are endangered and protected. WHICH DAY DO I BOOK AND DO WE FISH IN UNSAFE OR RAINY WEATHER? We recommend that you book your trip on a day early in your holiday/stay/window, so that we can reschedule in case of unsafe weather, (ie strong wind or and high seas) we don't reschedule if rain is forecast or if it is raining, there is often less rain at sea than on the land and cloud cover improves the catch rate on many species. Bring a rain coat. WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM NUMBERS REQUIRED TO BOOK? - We build the group. Singles, twos, threes etc are no problem. CAN I BYO? Yes, byo fishing gear, food, alcohol/drinks ~ no problem. CAN I KEEP THE FISH THAT I CATCH? - Yes, unlike some charter boats you choose to either release, keep or share your legal captures, kept fish are gutted and iced down, plastic bags are provided if required. WHERE DO WE BOARD THE BOAT AND AT WHAT TIME? - At 328
